Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K

This morning I got up way before the sun and went to run my first 5K ever. There was some confusion as to what time I was running (since there was more than one race) and all that and I wasn't able to get much stretching in before the run (It took longer to get downtown than we thought it would), but in the end I did run. I ran the 5K in 38 mins and 20 seconds. Not bad considering that my only goal was to actually finish and not be the very last person to cross that line. I made it half way before I had to walk and I had to walk often after that. I got side stiches which I think was because I didn't get enough stretching in. Anyways I did it and I couldn't be more proud of myself. I actually did this!
One of the cool things about this for me was that moment when everyone first starts to run. The first song on my Ipod was Hysteria by Muse and it was so very fitting. :) Anyways besides that crazy cool starting moment I also found myself in tears a little less than 10 mins in to the race. No I wasn't in pain but I was just thankful and blessed to be able to run. It was amazing really to see all the pink survior shirts and all the runners with pictures or lists of names of people they were running for. I was humbled that I was able to do something as little as getting up and going for a run to help benefit those that have lost loved ones or who are currently enduring breast cancer. I am so glad that I choose this as my first race.
I am already considering a few more races. There is a 5k walk next week that I might do and a few 5ks in November. Something I did learn though is that I will need to invest in more running tights/shirts/etc made for cold weather running. It was dang cold out there this morning as I ran.
