A friend posted on facebook that she was looking to find a running buddy for a 5k that is going to happen on my birthday (July 17th) in Wilmore. I actually asked her about it since she said she wasn't a fast runner and this was a chance for her to get back into her groove. I am actually considering it. I haven't done a ton of outside running but neither has she so I figure we would be a matched pair since I use the elliptical all the time and she's on the tredmill.
I dunno. Maybe I'm crazy. I do want to do a 5k before my 30th birthday and this would be a good start. Heck it would be the first day of being 29 that I would get my first ever 5k in. Sadly though at the moment I don't have the necessary funds to register (registration ends on wed). Money is way tight since our dryer just broke and we are having some car issues. Money issues suck...I want to cry.
Anways I think I just really suprised myself with how quickly I asked about the race and how hard I've been thinking about since she mentioned it. Maybe I am ready for the next challenge. If I decide to do this and the money works out anyone have any tips for me? Words of wisdom? anything?
Set some realistic goals for yourself. When I ran my first 5K, I wanted to a) run the whole time and b) finish with a smile. I managed to do both.
ReplyDeleteAlso, don't start out too fast because you'll get tired sooner. I really hope this works out for you and you get to participate in the race!
