I have a love hate relationship with this picture. I look terrible and this was before the race even started but I'm smiling and laughing and that I love. If you look closely you can see I'm rocking an Asbury College PE t shirt. Yep it's the one that I had in college.
Anyways about the race and all that stuff:
-Got up at 5:30am to be ready by 7am to leave. Mom came and watched the kiddos and Todd and I went to the race. The race was the Victory 5K and is to honor Veterans who have and are currently serving our country.
-For breakfast I had a chocolate shakeology with milk and a spoonful of jiff peanut butter (the peanut butter was ick but I think my taste buds are changing I'll blog about that later).
-Checked in at about 7:45am and then walked and stretched and did all that stuff until the race started at 9am
-While getting ready to run I met several really awesome people, a few of them are hard core runners, but most of them are former service guys/gals who were in their 60s! I know right. I hope I'm rocking some major fitness when I'm that old. They were all really great and super supportive of me the beginner runner.
-Said cool people from above when they lapped me (yes I got lapped by 60 year olds) they shouted words of encouragement and clapped for me. How awesome is that? I didn't even feel bad about being lapped I was just thrilled that they were doing so awesome.
-I ran a little bit with a gal who seemed to be about my speed. Running with a buddy does make a difference. Wonder if I could talk Todd into running with me sometime. hmmm....
-If I haven't mentioned it yet it was cold. Man oh man was it cold. I felt silly in all my clothes but until I can buy some more cold compression stuff you gotta do what you gotta do to stay warm. I didn't run with my jacket on but as soon as I was done I put it back on with my sweatpants that I had been wearing over top of my little capri pants before I started running.
-My goals for the race were to finish in under 30 mins and to not walk at all. Well....that didn't happen. I did walk some and I finished at 36 mins and 2 seconds which is about 2 and half minutes off my time. Which I am all ok with.
-The reason I walked was that I got a little distracted with nature and the people around me so much so that I slowed down. I can't run and not admire the beauty of creation around me. Good thing my goal wasn't to win the race. haha
-I feel great. I learned a few things today that I can take with me to my next race. I also finished strong and didn't have any aches or pains (no side stitches or anything!). I'm sure with more races and time I'll improve more.
In the mean time if you are a runner I need to talk to you. I need someone to teach me about pacing and how to find your pace and all that. Also since I have a hip issue that throws my spine out a bit and I wind up hunching over I need some one to show me the proper form for running.
Overall a great time and I'm glad I was able to run for and with some Veterans and make my personal best even better.
*I'll post a picture of my huge race shirt later sine I know you all want to see it right? *
